Week 39 & Video

hey!! I've been having an awesome week!!

Vikki had her baptismal interview and she is all set and ready to go for the 15th of November!! She is doing so awesome!

We've had several awesome lessons with a couple of different investigators as well! One particular family had been kind of iffy for awhile, however, this past week when we had a lesson, they seemed more into it and they were all willing to be baptized. They even all came to church yesterday! It was awesome!

There was a funny story that I heard this week. A less active Peruvian woman told us a story of what had happened several years ago. She was in peru and she had the missionaries over several weeks after she'd been baptized. She sat them down and told them that she was going to give them coffee and that they were going to drink it. The Elders were quite shocked and protested that they couldn't. Well this woman made them drink it and the elders were panicking. Well.....what they didn't know is that she was teasing them and that it wasn't actually coffee. However, she let them stew for a couple of hours and then she finally told them that it wasn't coffee!! My goodness they were relieved!! ha ha

well anywho, we've just been having a great week and we are seeing lots of success!! love you all! :)

Here's a video we took the other day... its called a "Tim Tam Slam"

Week 38

Hey! This week has been going pretty well!! Vikki Eddington has made the decision to be baptized on November 15th! :)

Last preparation day Vikki had texted us and asked if we wanted to come over and bake cookies so we decided that we would! So we got over there and spent most of our P day just hanging out with Vikki and she bought us dinner as well. At one point she started asking us some questions and we could tell that it had been some things that she'd been thinking about for awhile and that it had been holding her back a little bit. However, we just answered her questions and then she paused, then said, "Well..I guess I should pray for a date for baptism then! I already have 2 dates in mind..."

Im sure my face would've been a big mixture of shock and excitement! After talking about it for a few minutes she decided that November 15th would be the perfect day to get baptized since it's her birthday and it'd be a nice new beginning!! We are definitely so excited!!! She's really excited as well!! It's been really cool to see the changes in her. Whenever we would teach her a new principle, she would think about it for a few seconds and then immediately commit to follow it and at the same time she would say, "well...if God wants it to be that way then he will prepare a way!". She's awesome!

Another miracle actually occurred from this experience as well. When we left vikkis house we had a bag full of cookies. We still had a couple hours left of the night so we prayed about where we should go, and I had someone pop into my mind, but before I said anything I asked my companion, "Well...do you have anyone in mind of who you'd like to visit?" She answered,  "hmm I was thinking Monica..." I smiled and said, "Good!!! Cause I was thinking the same person!!" (Monica is a member of the church). So we headed over to monicas and right before we walked in sister Waldron felt like she should bring the cookies inside.

We started talking about the mriacles that had been occurring lately and monica paused at one point and said, "Hey! I just remembered...on my way home from work my friend sally called me and I haven't got a chance to call her back. I've been looking for a way to share the gospel with her. Do you think I should give her a call??" We of course answered YES!!! Monica gave sally a call and as she was talking to her I had the thought that we should offer to bring the cookies we had baked over to sally right now! So I started motioning like a crazy person to monica, trying to get my point across via crazy hand actions and luckily she understood what I was saying and sally agreed to let us all drop by! So, long story short, we pulled up to sally's house and we were able to meet her and set up a time to come back and she is doing so awesome!!

Anywho, that's about it!! Have a wonderful week! love you all! :)

Week 37

Hey family! This week has been pretty good! I don't have tons to update on and the library is closed....so I'm just sending a short email today!
The most interesting thing that happened is probably Sunday. We were sitting in church and all of the fire alarms started to go off. Well that was quite a big shocker. We all sat there for a second, then people were running down the halls and someone in our class was like, "uhhh I think we should evacuate the building!" So we all started heading for the doors. The fire department showed up next. Come to find out, there was a two year old who had decided to pull the alarm. Ha ha it was a pretty interesting Sunday.
The final thing I want to mention is a lesson we had Sunday evening. We had set up a time to go by the Hinkles house again. So we showed up and it was the most amazing lesson. (Brother hinkle is the one who had faithfully attended church with his wife for the past 20 years, but is not a member). So when we were planning for his lesson we really had no idea what we see going to say, so we planned as best we could, then just figured that we would have to rely on the spirit. The hinkles are moving and this was our last time that we would be able to see them. Today brother hinkle told us that in 20 years we were the only missionaries who had been able to get through to him. He thanked us and told how much of a difference we had made and that we shouldn't
worry about him because he was going to start reading the scriptures every day and that he would study them instead of just reading them.
By the time the lesson ended I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh or cry. The spirit was so strong by the end and I knew that if I wasn't able to attend his baptism while I was on my mission, then I would come back to see it where ever I was. I told him as such and he and his wife about started crying. They are such a sweet family, he'll get baptized someday. He has a testimony, he just doesn't realize it, but he'll get baptized.
Anywho...that's about it for the week! Love you all!

Week 36

hey! So our P Day got switched...we found out Sunday evening that we were going to have a vehicle training all day on Monday!

This past week went pretty well!! At the vehicle training we had some really fun stuff that we were doing...I think the one that was the most fun was when we tested out the anti lock braking System (ABS). We were all in the church parking lot, but we had a bunch of cones set up and we had a long stretch where we were supposed to drive. The mission vehicle coordinator wanted each of us to discover what it felt like when the ABS was working. SO they took us to the "long" stretch of road and they told us that we needed to put the gas peddle all the way to the floor (mind you...the only thing on the other side was a bunch of trees) and about 30 feet in front of the trees was an orange cone that we were supposed to slam on in order to get the feel of the brakes.

So here I was sitting in the car I'm driving, the instructor was in the back and he says, "ok well...whenever youre ready is fine!" So I sat there for a second thinking, "Well...I'm probably going to die...I'm headed straight towards a forest and I'm supposed to slam on the brakes right before...great." So I figured that I might as well just do it. So I floor it and the trees keep getting closer and closer and in my mind I'm thinking that it would probably be a good time to just stop so that I don't actually go through the trees, but I hadn't quite reached the cone yet. The instructor had warned me beforehand that I would have to overcome the strong urge to stop and keep my foot all the way down on the gas.

So the trees were pretty close, but of course I had to keep going until I got to the cone. Finally, I got to the cone and I slammed my foot on the brake, and thank goodness we stopped before we reached the trees.

Even though this was only a random drive test, I realized applied a lot to missionary work. It's not always easy to walk up to that random intimidating looking white person and tell them that they need Jesus. Just like its not always easy to drive down a small stretch of road when it appears that the tree line is going to come into contact with the hood of the car. However, because we know it's what we need to do and we know that it'll test our self control and sometimes we'll feel like we want to stop, but we cant stop (insert miley cyrus song;) baha jk). But we know the results of people coming to the gospel and we know how much itll bless them, so we just cannot stop and we cant forget to share the gospel.

I've come to realize how critical a members role is in the gospel. A member has the opportunity to be FRIENDS with people. When I want to go make "friends" with someone out here, I get the brush off because all they see is the nametag I wear. But as members, the role is so important because once you've established a relationship of trust with someone, you then have the ability to share the gospel with them because they are already comfortable with you and they wont get offended when you bring up something that already means so much to you! :) It's so awesome how much a member truly matters to the missionaries because we literally cannot do it without them!

Anywho, I've been thinking about that a lot since coming out on my mission and just how it is a 2 person job (member and missionary). Apparently the prophets knew what they were talking about;) ha ha

buuuuuut the rest of the week has been going pretty well!! I don't know if you all of heard of the "meet the Mormons" movie, but our whole mission gets to watch it this Thursday!

Love you all! Have an awesome week!!

Week 35

Hey! This past week has probably been one of the most amazing I've had yet.

To start off....Flashing back to a few weeks ago. The transfer was just beginning and I had just met sister Waldron. I told her that I didn't like how things were being carried out in this area, and that I wanted to change everything. We sat down and discussed all of the changes that I felt needed to happen and we started to make a plan for how we could make the area run more effectively. We'd started putting several of our plans into action, but we still needed somethingmore. In one of our wards we had a new ward mission leader called. We met him and set up a time to come over on Saturday and discuss our ward. On Saturday morning, during our studies in the morning my companion and I had a really detailed plan that we laid out. We had prayed really hard and we felt good about what we had accomplished. In it there were several things that I don't believe had ever been tried in this area before. So...Saturday night we got to our meeting with brother Johnson (the ward mission leader). He sat us down and told us that he'd been praying about what kinds of things we needed to do to make this area progressing. He told us a specific plan that he had come up with. It was almost EXACTLY the same plan that my companion and I had come up with that morning. Seriously, it was amazing. THe spirit was really strong and we know that our plan is what heavenly father wants for this area.

Next, another amazing experience happened yesterday. I was asked to give a 5 minute talk in sacrament meeting. I got up, spoke and then I sat down. As I listened to the rest of the meeting I got the feeling that we needed to see a man named John. His wife was a member, he was not. Yet, for the past 20 years he has faithfully come to church with her every single sunday. I pushed the thought to the back of my mind and figured I'd discuss it with my companion later. Later came and I told her what I'd been thinking and she gave me this crazy look and said, "you know...I got the same feeling that you did". Right after dinner we made the trip up to the johns home. Lo and behold, we saw john outside mowing the lawn. We dropped the car at his house and then walked back down to talk to him. He greeted us and then after talking  for a couple of minutes he said, "well, I hope you don't mind, but I've got to finish mowing the lawn, so if you just go up to the house my wife will be there! Is that alright?" . My whole countenance just dropped....I attempted to form a reply, but I found that I couldn't find the words. John had noticed our reaction and simply said, "I'll be right up".

We walked back up to the house and johns wife was very surprised to see us!! We all sat down and we told them of our prompting to come there. John looked at us and said, "you know...I wasn't really all that surprised to see you here today". He then went on to say that when I was speaking in church that he felt as if I was talking right to him, and that he had the feeling that several other people were zeroing in on him that morning as well. Funnily enough, when I was speaking the thought hadn't even occurred to me that we needed to see him, it happened after I was done.

We told him that it mustve been the spirit that made him feel like I was talking to him. We boldly asked him why he hadn't been baptized and what was holding him back. he told us of his concerns and then we told him that heavenly father felt that he was ready for this step in his life. After that we started talking about eternal families and his wife as well as john both commented about how they wanted that in their life.

The last cool thing about this lesson was that something changed about john that night. I'm not sure what it was...but his wife could see it as well. I cant imagine how many missionaries have tried to baptize him in the past 20 years, however as soon as we finished our visit the wife asked us said to come back next sunday. I'm not sure what exactly the change was in him, but from his wife's reaction, I know that it was something subtle and yet big enough for her to hope that this could be the time that he gets baptized. The spirit was so strong!! We're excited to go back!!!

Well,.....that's about it for the week! Love you all!! :)

Week 34

This past week has seriously been SO AMAZING!!! I don't have time to write most of what has happened, so i'll just put the main highlights. First off....we found 12 new investigators this week!! This particular area I'm in has been said to be an area that "unmotivates missionaries" and is a "really difficult area". This week we've just seen so many miracles, it has been amazing, although I take no credit for myself because I really haven't been doing anything. People quite literally just kept popping up out of nowhere who were really interested in the church.

Here's a couple of the experiences we've had with these people:

#1 last Monday evening we were about to head in for the night, but we saw one last girl out walking her dog, so we decided to talk to her. Her name is Atiana, and We taught her a little bit of the restoration of Christ's church, gave her a book of Mormon and said a prayer with her before we left. A couple days later we saw her again. We saw Atiana three days in a row. That was not our doing. We asked to set up an appointment with her each time we saw her and she would always say that she would like to meet with us the next day. Then, during that time, she came to church with us, read all of the assignments that we gave her and she wants to be baptized on November 22nd. Miracle, right??

#2 We had a few minutes before an appointment so we just walked down the street and we saw three teenagers headed down the road. We stopped to them and come to find out, they were all interested in learning more about our church, AND one of their moms was actually a less active member whom no one knew had moved here!! A few days later we were able to stop by the mom and she was so sweet and she wants to come back to church!

#3 Vikki Eddington is still coming to church and she keeps wanting to learn more and more about the church! She has been coming to all sorts of other church activities. This past sunday we found out that Vikki's husband (who is an inactive member) had asked her, "so, do the men wear suit coats to church??" It appears that her husband has been thinking about coming back to the church!!

There were so many other miracles that happened this week as well, I wish I could say everything that happened, but just know that heavenly father is definitely watching over this whole area, and that their are many people who are ready for the gospel!!

But anywho...I hope everyone has an awesome week!!! love you all!! :)

Week 33

Well this week has been going super good!!! Well to start off....I've tried some food this week that I never thought I would try, but I decided that since I probably wouldn't have another chance...I might as well just go for it!! So...I discovered seafood only smells fishy when it's old, because fresh sea food doesn't smell that way AT ALL! I also recently found out that fresh crab....tastes exactly like string cheese. No joke. I was pleasantly surprised. Also, shrimp is not my favorite, but it's edible, doesn't taste too bad, but the texture is not my favorite.

We have just had such an amazing week down here. No joke. On one day, we had 4 crazy miracles....it was on September 9th so Im pretty sure it was because of Aly's birthday. ha ha

miracle #1: Sister Waldron and I were at the library and we hadn't had much success with facebook teaching that day, but right as we were about to get off of the computer we had a couple of people start messaging us back, so we stayed a few minutes longer. Finally we left and on the way out we saw a young girl who was sitting outside the library completely bawling while she was on the phone. My companion and I both walked up to talk to her at the same time and she told us what had happened that day. Her teacher had yelled at her when she hadn't understood how to do something. She said that her name was Alicia and that she was 10 years old and that she was waiting for her mom to come pick her up. We offered to sit and wait with her and she agreed. So we sat there for probably 20 minutes just talking about all sorts of things and out of nowhere Alicia said, "hey, my family used to have the missionaries over once a week!" we of course were very surprised!! By the time Alicias mom got there we had talked about coming to visit and her mom readily agreed to having us come over.

Miracle #2: right after we finished talking to Alicia we decided that we were going to go buy some food for dinner. When we got there we had all sorts of problems with our debit card, but finally we sat down to wait for our food. The cashier who had taken our order walked up to our table and sat down and started asking us all sorts of questions about our church and our beliefs and that he had seen a lot of missionaries come here before. This man's name was Giancarlo and he was so friendly and he told us about how he came to find jesus Christ in his life.

Miracle #3: Right after we left the restaurant where Giancarlo was at we  knocked on a random house and a man answered and he was pretty intimidating. He was TALL. and he had a crazy beard. He was really standoffish at first and did not seem to want to talk about God with two random chicks who just happened to knock on his door. Although, by some miracle we were able to get him to open up and little bit and we found out that he had just had a death in the family and that they were all going through a really hard time at the moment. We shared a couple of scriptures with him, prayed with him and asked if we could come back and he agreed.

Miracle #4: We continued walking down there street after the previous mans house and we were about to drive back home, but we felt like we should stop at one more house. We walked up to the driveway and we saw a woman sitting on the steps smoking. We tried to start a conversation up and she told us to go away. Being the persistent missionary that I am, I didn't listen to her and just kept talking and trying to share some type of spiritual thought. Finally Janet said, "please go away, my mom's about to die and im REALLY not in the mood". hmmm...nope....I wasn't just going to let her go that easy. After denying us for the third time, we were about to walk away, but I stopped. And just out of the blue I asked her if I could give her a hug. At first she gave me a really weird look, but then accepted one. RIght after that Janet completely opened up and told us what had been happening lately. I asked her if we could come back and do service for her....then jokingly added, "...or pretty much anything that will get us out of our skirts.." she started laughing and then told us that the first time she smiled all day today was with us. It was really cool to see the change in her from right when we started talking, to right before we left. She even offered to have us back over sometime.

Another awesome thing that happened was with Vikki Eddington. She is seriously just so amazing. She's come to church three weeks in a row and she isn't planning on stopping. She's participating so much in church and when people in church now introduce themselves to her, she replies that her name is "sister eddington". She got a flyer for a relief society activity and she said that if we go to that, she would go to. She also is making lots of friendships with the ward. She's on fire!!! This week when we got to church as well she started telling us about how she'd picked the book of Mormon up in order to read it, because a bunch of people have kept telling her that in order to know if the church is true she needs to read it. Another miracle that happened is when we were about to start sacrament she started to tell us how everything in church just went right over her head and she didn't really know what was going on. So immediately I started saying a ton of prayers in my head that she would be able to understand what was going on in church and unbeknownst to me, my companion had started saying a similar prayer in her own head. By the end of the second hour I asked Vikki what questions she had and her reply was, "I actually don't have any!! I've understood everything that has been happening!!" I was shocked!! Just in our sunday school class we had been talking about covenants and a bunch of stuff, but because of my companions and my prayer, she was able to understand!! Pray works!!!!

Everything is going so well!!! I love it out here!! Have a wonderful week!! :)

Week 32

Well there isn't tons to say this week, but transfers happened!! My new companions name is sister Kylee Waldron. aaaaaand she's from Washington state! The city is castle rock...but its super exciting! She's been out about 5 months. We've been having a lot of fun together.

It looks like Virginia has fall on the way. It was cold outside when we got up! At our house we have absolutely no service, so the past few days have been very interesting. The mission president, our zone leaders and our sister training leaders all called us because they thought that we had been kidnapped because we hadn't answered back to any texts, or calls. Well...needless to say, we are alive.

The coolest thing this week happened with our investigator Vikki Eddington. So she had come to church last week right before transfers and she'd said how fun church was and that she would come back. So this past week she showed up for church and she was so excited. She told us that she really wanted to "buckle down on the missionary lessons" and that she was "feeling a really strong motivation to read the book of Mormon". We weren't sure how her inactive husband was taking everything, but we also found out that he is fully supportive of her and that several years ago he actually encouraged her to go to church and to take their children there.

Other than that, this week has been a slow going process. We're trying to completely change our area around. This area is known as one of the areas that missionaries become unmotivated in because it's so huge and we are sitting in the car so much! We're hoping to change this area and make it into a strong, progressing area!!

That's about it!! love you all!! :)

Week 31

Sorry that this email is coming today! Yesterday was labor day so all of the libraries were closed.

This week has been going pretty well. Coming up this Thursday Sister Christensen is getting transferred, I will be staying in this area!

We've had some pretty interesting experiences this week. First of all, apparently I'm shorter than I thought. The ward member that we live with has a wall filled with different missionaries heights and stuff so of course my companion and I had to conform to the tradition and put ours up as well. Apparently I'm shorter than 5'2". MY WHOLE LIFE IS A LIE!!!! bahaha that was a really awkward realization and my companion was dying of laughter.

Another random thing, stink bugs really enjoy living in our attic, so now we've got a whole graveyard of them just sitting upstairs. Hm...they're EVERYWHERE. Although it could definitely be much worse.

Another really funny thing happened this week. We went to visit a family whom we had never met before and the mom and dad told us a hilarious story. About 5 years ago the family had not been on a vacation together, so they decided that they needed to take a trip to florida. The mom decided that since they were going out, she wanted to treat herself. Before they headed off she got her hair and nails done and she bought really expensive perfumes and conditioners, adding up to a little over $400. So the family heads off to the airport, but due to traffic they are running late. Finally once they get there and get up to security...the mom discovered that in order to get through security she could not have any liquids over 3 oz. in her carry on....she had ALL of her really expensive stuff in there. The flight is about to leave really soon so her football player husband grab up the suitcase and starts sprinting back to the front to see if they could check the bag. He gets up to the desk and the woman says, "Um sorry sir. If you would've been here 60 seconds ago, you would've been able to check it. You'll just have to throw everything away". 60 SECONDS. That's all he missed it by. Now of course the plane is probably about 5 minutes away from leaving. This ward member grabs his suitcase, lifts it up and starts sprinting through the airport in an attempt to make it on the flight before it leaves.  That would've been quite a sight. He's huge. And He makes it just in time as the door slams behind him. The wife was quite shocked that he had made it back in time, but was quite saddened that he hadn't been able to get the stuff checked. And to this day, the wife still has not treated herself to those again. She goes for the knock offs. Crazy story, right?

This week we had to take the Green Family off their baptismal date :( We're hopping that they'll end up getting baptized sometime in September, but we will have to see!!

Although we do have some good news as well!!! One of our investigators came to church!! We weren't sure if she would even be willing to come, but she said that she really loves babies so she would come to sacrament and then she'd really like to volunteer to help with all of the babies in nursery. So she gets to church and ends up listening to all of sacrament AND she even decided to go to Sunday school before she went to nursery!! It was awesome. When a ward member asked her if she would be coming back she said, "YES!!!! I'll be here next week also!!! And who knows, maybe the week after that as well!!!!" It was awesome.

But anywho....that's about it for the week!! By Thursday I will have a new companion and all that stuff!! Have an absolutely awesome week!! and hopefully I should have some pictures to send you all soon.....Love you!! :)

Week 30

This week has been going pretty well! Since we have a lot of service and its been warm outside then I generally have tended to try to keep my bangs up out of my face, but this past week I decided to cut them and then the next day I went to church....I had several people walk up and reintroduce themselves because they thought that I was a new sister had just transferred in. Ha ha! Apparently I look more different than I thought!
This week we officially moved into our other house! We actually moved in several days earlier than we previously thought. We got to our first house and literally tossed everything into our suitcases as fast as we could! It kind of felt like we were on the run with how fast we threw everything into our car and headed off. Our new house is pretty nice! We have bigger beds than we did in the other house and the members are pretty nice. Our house is in the woods now, so you don't really see many other people.
Something cool happened the other day. We went to visit Vikki Eddington (nonmember) and when we got there she had her book of Mormon sitting on the table in front of her. She said, "well I was thinking that today we could just read from the book of Mormon instead of talking today!!!" So we went through the whole introduction and testimony of the witnesses in the front and she agreed with everything and said how much she liked it all and that she was going to start reading the book of Mormon right after we left! It was awesome! Before when we'd gone over she hadn't really seemed to even consider getting baptized, but this time, she mentioned something about how "she could be a Mormon someday!" it was really cool!

Something really funny happened this week. So a member gave us a referral. The person she wanted us to go see was her zumba teacher!! the member didn't know any of her other info, but she went to her class each week, so we got the info for the class and on Thursday we showed up!! We met her right at the beginning (her name is mary anne) then we did the zumba class and then afterwards she talked to us again and was so excited to have us! She then said, "Oh my goodness, so you teach all about the bible and stuff, right?? I would LOVE to meet with you!! I'll give you a call!! oh...and also...can I bring a friend with me as well??" it was AWESOME!! I was so excited and the zumba class was a ton of fun!! ha ha I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it regularly when I get back!
Well....there isn't tons more to say.....transfers are already coming up again! September 4th is when they are, I don't think I'll be moving anywhere though!!
Love you all!! :)

Week 29

(First off... I have to apologize, being out of town in Europe without email for a month means late Kali emails on the blog!)

Hey family!!! Well first things first... IM SO EXCITED ABOUT CABES MISSION CALL! And Spanish speaking will be AWESOME! :) I was so excited that I actually had a dream last night where I was home and cabe opened his mission call. I woke up and was like "WHAAAT?!?" Ha ha

There hasn't been too much going on around here lately! We've been trying to work out the kinks for the baptism of the Green family.

We had exchanges this week. I headed off to a new area while sister Christensen stayed in our area. My companion for 24 hours was sister Hansen! She goes home on 2 1/2 weeks! Weird, right? I feel like before I know it, I'll be at that point too. It goes by so fast. Sister Hansen and I had a lot of fun while we were there, I found out that she had eaten pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner and that she
probably was going to eat some the next day too. Oh and it was all her choice to eat the pizza, it was pretty funny! We somehow accidentally ended up with one of the elders iPads, and Sister Hansen's had gone with them. We of course could not pass up e opportunity to take lots of funny pictures and a couple of videos.

A few days ago we went over to Kathy's house to groom her horses again and we found out she broke her toe! One of the horses had stepped on it, and since she was he only one on the farm, she had to keep working. Since she had gotten injured she was a little worried about having us around her horses since it would be bad if we got injured. So instead we washed her dogs! We took them outside and hosed them down! I'm such a pro now, bear and coda won't know what's hit them. ;)

In the Hamilton ward there are several families that have missionaries out in the field. All of the families got together and decided that they should have a preach my gospel class. So every Sunday during the second hour they gather each other together and talk about their missionaries and the things they're learning and stuff. It's pretty cool to see it from the other side, what it's like for the families back home.

This week we are moving houses again. We're now going to live with the Christensen family! Ha ha apparently he lord thinks I need to be surrounded by "relatives". :)

My new address starting next Monday will be:
